Big Data, Bigger Innovation: tb.lx for Daimler Truck and Buses

Towards a sustainable future of transportation.

Challenge

Unlocking local mobility patterns on a global scale

Data is the key to building interconnected services, but how can a company with as much information circulating from local markets as Daimler Truck & Buses collect, process and leverage what they have to engineer more globally-minded products? To show how, KI challengers created tb.lx, a technology hub dedicated to giving Daimler Trucks & Buses a constant supply of high-quality insights on mobility trends from units worldwide.

OUR ROLE

  • Supported internal marketing and alignment

Solution

A technology hub focused on data-driven excellence

KI challengers established tb.lx as separate legal entity from Daimler Truck & Buses, structuring and staffing its operations so it could operate in as high-speed yet secure a manner as possible. It was equipped with an IT setup, technology stack and methodology for gathering and interpreting telemetry data at scale within complex business environments, and in 12 months, 30 permanent data experts were onboarded. These employees jumped at the chance to work in a deep tech environment at the frontiers of an industry, but to retain their talent and prevent tb.lx from becoming a glorified delivery unit for its parent company, KI challengers shaped a distinct company culture and employee mission.

Success

Sustainable, home-grown insights from data and platform experts

After just one year in operation, tb.lx’s scalability, innovative potential and team spirit was indisputable. It kicked off both a pilot solution for the global electric-truck charging infrastructure and delivered an MVP for Global Services as part of Daimler Truck & Buses’s global connectivity platform. Achievements like these can only come from a culture of continuous improvement, honest feedback and transparent communication – the cornerstones of any thriving product-driven environment.

For Daimler Truck & Buses, the success of tb.lx was yet more evidence that they have the power to develop purposeful, differentiated tech at faster-than-market speeds. Instead of renting excellence in deep tech, they relied on KI challengers to organically grow it for themselves – and they aren’t looking backwards.
